About Us

The South Carolina Grantmakers Network (SCGMN) is a statewide membership organization that brings together philanthropic organizations committed to improving the well-being of communities across South Carolina. Our members include private foundations, corporate funders, community foundations, and other organizations that invest in the nonprofit sector.

Our Mission

At the heart of the South Carolina Grantmakers Network is a commitment to strengthening philanthropy through shared purpose. Our work is grounded in three interconnected pillars that guide how we engage with members and communities:

Connect

SCGMN strengthens South Carolina’s philanthropic sector through funder engagement and collaboration.

  • Identify opportunities to collaborate with aligned organizations and sectors within and outside of South Carolina.
  • Position SCGMN as a resource to funders outside of South Carolina.
  • Grow and diversify SCGMN’s membership.

Learn

SCGMN builds their knowledge about statewide issues and opportunities to harness shared impact.

  • Improve and promote publicly available information and resources about
    philanthropic best practices created by SCGMN and its members.
  • Improve existing and identify new members-only tools and resources to
    help members communicate, learn about one another’s work, and build relationships.
  • Promote and provide quality and relevant opportunities for SCGMN
    members to share information and learn together.

Act

South Carolina grantmakers lend their collective voices and influence to support the nonprofit sector.

  • Educate SCGMN members about the importance of advocacy and how
    philanthropy can engage in this work.
  • Create and implement an advocacy plan for SCGMN in collaboration with
    partner organizations.
  • Foster strategic collaboration among members on specific advocacy-related initiatives.
  • Identify and share opportunities for SCGMN to engage in
    advocacy efforts.
Background

SCGMN was organized in 1996 by a group of funders who saw the need for a statewide forum to connect and support grantmaking organizations’ staff, board and trustees. We are  a charitable venture operating under the fiscal sponsorship of the Central Carolina Community Foundation.

Non-Solicitation Policy

SCGMN provides a space for funders to collaborate and network together, because we know we do our best work together. We maintain the culture of our network by ensuring that SCGMN events and the SCGMN network are not used for business solicitation or fundraising by members or guests.

Organizations that function as both grantmakers and grantseekers, and individuals who have roles in both philanthropy and development, must ensure their membership or attendance at events is not used for fundraising or promotion purposes.
